1. What is a web browser? How does it work?

A web browser is a program on your computer that allows you to visit website. You get your web browser by clicking on its icon, from there you enter web address, and the web browser just places the web pages for you. The web browser is the most important piece of software on your computer because every web pages runs through it.

As you already know, to view a web site or a web page in a browser, you would either type in the URL or click on a link and hit the go button. Now, the page you have asked the browser to display would probably be located on a Server computer far away.

2. What is a bookmark?

A bookmark is a page keeper. A reader inserts a bookmark into the pages of a book when he or she stops reading. This way when it's time to read again, the reader can open the pages where the bookmark is to find the place in the book where he or she left off at rather than trying to remember the page number. Bookmarks save having to flip through the book and read sentences trying to find the exact place to re-start reading the book.

3. What is the purpose of a web [browser] cache?

The purpose of a web browser cache is that transparently stores data so that future requests for that data can be served faster. The data that is stored within a cache might be values that have been computed earlier or duplicates of original values that are stored elsewhere. If requested data is contained in the cache (cache hit), this request can be served by simply reading the cache, which is comparatively faster.


4. What is a web [browser] plug-in?

n computing, a plug-in (or plug-in) is a set of software components that adds specific abilities to a larger software application. If supported, plug-ins enable customizing the functionality of an application. For example, plug-ins are commonly used in web browsers to play video, scan for viruses, and display new file types. Well-known plug-ins examples include Adobe Flash Player and QuickTime.










Choose three types of web browsers and answer the following questions for each browser.
Microsoft Internet Explorer.
Mozilla Fire fox.
Google chrome.


How do you set homepages?
When you initially open up your Web browser, the very first page that you will see is called the "home" page. The home page is your jumping off point to the rest of the Web. You can specify absolutely any page on the Web as your browser homepage.
How do you customize search providers?
To add a provider to the Internet Explorer Instant Search box, click the provider's link below. You can set any of these as the default search provider by selecting the Make this default search provider check box in the Add Search Provider dialog box that appears when you click the link.
How do you clear the cache?
Every web browser stores a cache of the websites you visit e.g. HTML pages, to reduce bandwidth usage and server load. This is called the browser's cache. Clearing it occasionally can make some websites run smoother and free up space on your computers hard drive if it's running low.
